Women's Cross Country Update - Oct. 11

Augsuta State won the Anderson Trojan Invitational team race on Saturday while Clayton State’s Allison Kreutzer won the individual title on a busy cross country weekend.

Augusta State had three runners finish in the top 10 and all five scoring runners in the top 20 to finish the meet with 48 points to finish well ahead of second-place Wingate with 87. Jenafer Forward was third overall in 19:25 on the 5k course while Kara Kreutzer was seventh in 20:04 and Savannah Sutton ninth in 20:10. Sophie Baconnet was 13th in 20:20 while Celia Kresser was 16th in 20:50. The team victory is ASU’s third this season and they have finished either first or second in four of their five meets so far.

But the individual winner of the race was Kreutzer, who continued her unprecedented run with her fifth straight win, taking first in every race she has run this season. Kreutzer ran the course at Anderson in 18:17, 38 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. The Clayton State women’s team also faired well, finishing fourth in the 11-team field with 116 points. Chelsea Ellis was the second Laker across the line, finishing 12th in 20:19.

Led by sisters Olga and Claudia Nunez-Lopez, the Lander women's cross country team placed third of 11 teams. Olga Nunez-Lopez finished 10th overall in the 72-runner field by covering the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 12 seconds. Claudia Nunez-Lopez was 11th in 20:16, Heather Lundin 20th in 20:59, Anna Lohmann 34th in 21:30; Katie Quarles 38th in 22:09, Karmen Twitty 48th in 22:46, and Samantha Wiegand 65th in 24:59.

UNC Pembroke finished sixth with 144 points. Tierra McIntosh was 18th in 20:54 while Ivy Ramsey was 19th in 20:56. Georgia Southwestern did not have a great race as a team, finishing last at Anderson. Cameron Rigsby led the team finishing 43rd in 22:33.

Elsewhere, USC Aiken and North Georgia ran at the Division I-heavy 5k Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C. USC Aiken finished 10th in the 18-team field while North Georgia was 16th.

For USC Aiken, sophomore and reigning PBC Runner of the Week Nicole Maitland led the Pacers across the finish line as she came in 43rd place with a time of 21:13. Coming in just behind Maitland was freshman Morgan Hudgins, finishing in 61st place with a time of 21:57. Following her was senior Renea Marshall, crossing the line at 22:38 for 69th place.

North Georgia was led by Emmy Lawalin was the fastest PBC runner in the race, finishing 36th in the 140-runner field in a time of 20:47. Katie Vance was next in 51st in 21:19 while Meghan Ruggin was 61st 21:53.
