Five-Time State Qualifier Caitlyn Sanders Joins Clayton State 2019-20 Signing Class

MORROW, Ga. - Clayton State women's track & field keeps racking up individuals that have qualified for multiple state championship appearances as head coach Chris Brown has announced the addition of five-time qualifier Caitlyn Sanders (Conyers, Ga.) on Thursday, July 18.

CAITLYN SANDERS: 5-2, Conyers, Ga. (Heritage High School)
Sanders comes to the Lakers following a four-year career at nearby Heritage High School, one which saw her make five Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Championship appearances, five trips to Sectionals and nine trips to region championships.

Of her GHSA State Championship appearances, three would come as part of the 4x100 relay in each of her last three seasons while she also qualified in the 400-meters and 4x400 relay as a junior. The latter would be her top performance at that level as the quartet recorded a time of 3:59.98 to finish 7-of-16.

For her career she would deliver 25 top five performances, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the GHSA Region 3-6A Championship in the 400-meters (58.71) as a junior. Later that season she produced three top five outings at the 6A Sectional Meet, placing 3-of-14 in the 400-meters (58.66), 4-of-15 in the 4x400 relay (4:03.79) and 5-of-16 in the 4x100 relay (48.82).

In terms of team accomplishments, Sanders helped the Patriots to three straight NewRock County Championships with contributions in the 200-meters and 4x100 and 4x400.

She also was part of a group that broke a seven-year old program record in the 4x100, doing so in the 2019 GHSA Sectional Meet. Performances like that helped lead Heritage to a runner-up finish at the region championship that same season.

Sanders earned both the Super Patriot Award, presented for outstanding leadership skills, athletic performance and support of her team and coaches, and the Most Promising Track & Field Athlete Award over the course of her career. On top of that she landed on the A/B Honor Roll for multiple years.

Head Coach Chris Brown on Caitlyn Sanders
"Caitlyn brings much needed depth for us in the 400-meters and will be vying for a spot on our 4x100 relay team. She is determined and hard working and I look forward to her time with us!"
