FLORENCE, S.C. - The top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team was crowed the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Champions after rains washed out the final day of the tournament on Saturday at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center in Florence, S.C.
By league rule, if a tournament can not be completed, then the highest remaining seed is declared the tournament champion. The top-seeded Pirates were scheduled to meet the second-seeded Columbus State Cougars in the championship match on Saturday. With the decision, Armstrong captures its 11th straight Peach Belt Conference tournament title.
Armstrong freshman Dora Andrejszki was named the PBC Tournament Singles MVP for going 2-0 in singles play during the tournament. Doubles MVPs were not named as many teams went 2-0 over the weekend.
The doubles co-MVP's were Armstrong's Alexandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova along with Columbus State's Paola Cigui and Beatriz Leon.
Armstrong will now await word of a possible NCAA Tournament bid, to be announced on Tuesday, April 29th, at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com
