UNC Pembroke, North Georgia Play 'Think Pink' Tennis Match

The UNCP tennis team’s regularly schedule home match on Saturday against North Georgia was designated “Think Pink” day at the Varsity Courts as the Braves  raised money and awareness for breast cancer research.

In addition to the match between the two Peach Belt Conference rivals, t-shirts, baked goods and other items were sold with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow Foundation. Match time was been set for noon, but fans and friends were invited to come out and take part in the event beginning at 11:30 a.m.  UNC Pembroke won the match 5-4.

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

In her 38 years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow was one of only six Division I head women's basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories. Yow was also the head coach of the 1988 US Olympic Team that won the gold medal in Seoul.
