PBC Announces Women’s Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has released the 2019 women's soccer Preseason All-Conference team.  The 11-player team was selected by the league's head coaches and represents six PBC institutions.  Defending PBC champion Columbus State leads with three selections while Flagler, Georgia College and North Georgia had two each.  Lander and UNC Pembroke also each had one player named to the team.

Cassie Balzano, Georgia College

  • A junior forward from Douglasville, Ga.
  • The leading returning scorer on the team, she scored five goals with two assists for 12 points
  • Named to the PBC All-Academic Team
  • Scored the game-winning goal in overtime as GC beat Young Harris in the PBC Tournament semifinals to advance to the title game

Riley Clark, Columbus State

  • A senior forward from Peachtree City, Ga.
  • Named first-team All-Conference last season and first-team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association and D2CCA
  • Named to the PBC All-Academic team, a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholar and a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American
  • Was second in the PBC with 16 goals scored and 39 total points and tied for sixth in assists
  • Had a pair of multi-goal games last season including a hat trick at North Georgia with more than half of her goals coming in conference play

Olivia Dumphy, North Georgia

  • A senior defender from Dawsonville, Ga.
  • One of four players on the team to start all 16 games last year
  • Named to the PBC All-Academic team and Presidential Honor Roll
  • Led a defense that was tied for the fourth-fewest goals allowed and recorded four shutouts

Madeline Goodfellow, Columbus State

  • A junior defender from Columbus, Ga.
  • A first-team All-Conference selection, she was also named first-team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches and the D2CCA
  • Started all 21 games and had the second-most minutes leading a defense that led the PBC with a 0.74 goals against average
  • CSU defense was second in total goals allowed and shutouts
  • Named a Google Cloud Academic All-American, the 27th women's soccer player to earn the honor in PBC history

Kai Jeffries, Georgia College

  • A junior defender from Lawrenceville, Ga.
  • Named third team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches and to the PBC All-Tournament team
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and member of the All-Academic Team
  • Key part of a defense that led the PBC with 12 shutouts and was second in the league with a 0.86 team goals against average

Emily Jermstad, Lander

  • A senior forward from Irmo, S.C.
  • Named second-team All-Conference and United Soccer Coaches All-Region third team
  • Was third on the team and 14th in the PBC with seven goals scored; was tied for second in the league with 10 assists and for sixth with 24 points
  • Scored two goals in a win at USC Aiken and had two multi-assist games
  • Scored five of her seven goals in conference games, fifth-most in the league

Taylor Malasek, North Georgia

  • A junior forward from Peachtree City, Ga.
  • A 2018-19 PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and named to the All-Academic Team
  • Was second on the team and tied for 10th in the PBC with eight goals scored last year; added one assist for 17 points
  • Scored five of her nine goals in conference games, tied for ninth in the league

Kimmy May, Columbus State

  • A junior midfielder from Columbus, Ga.
  • A first-team All-Conference selection, she was also named first-team All-Region by the D2CCA and second-team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches
  • Scored seven goals with 10 assists for 24 points; tied for second in the PBC in assists and tied for sixth in points
  • Scored two goals in CSU's 3-2 win over Lincoln Memorial in the NCAA Southeast Region championship game
  • Named to the PBC All-Academic Team and a Presidential Honor Roll Bronze Scholar

Charlene Nowotny, Flagler

  • A senior midfielder from Marburg, Germany
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in 2018 who was also named first-team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches
  • Named to the PBC All-Academic Team and a PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar
  • Scored seven goals with nine assists in 18 starts last season; ranked 10th in the PBC with 23 points and was fourth in assists
  • Tied a PBC conference-games-only record with four assists against Georgia Southwestern last year, also setting a school record

Gina Ryan, UNC Pembroke

  • A senior goalkeeper from Cape Carteret, N.C.
  • Currently tied for second in PBC history with 26 career shutouts and is 13th with 263 career saves
  • A two-time All-Conference selection, the 2016 PBC Freshman of the Year was named a Goalkeeper of the Week last season and to the PBC All-Academic Team
  • Ranked third in the PBC in save percentage, shutouts and GAA and was fourth in total saves
  • Recorded five shutouts in conference games last season, best in the PBC 

Sara Sandberg, Flagler

  • A junior forward from Orebro, Sweden
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in 2018 along with second team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches and the D2CCA
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar and named to the All-Academic Team
  • Twice named the PBC Player of the Week in 2018 after leading the team with 15 goals, third in the PBC; tied for eighth in the league in assists and was third with 36 overall points
  • Had five multi-goal games last season including a five-game scoring streak where she scored eight goals
