Mar 9, 2009 Kaplan Departing GSW AMERICUS, Ga. -- Director of Athletics Jaclyn Kaylor announced
today that Barry Kaplan would not be returning as head coach of
Georgia Southwestern State University’s Women’s Soccer
team for the 2009 – 2010 academic year.
Kaplan has been named as the Director of Coaching for the Palm
Harbor Soccer Club located in Palm Harbor, Florida. Kaplan and his
family made this decision so that they could return closer to home
and their extended families.
Kaplan came to GSW in 2004 to help start and build both the
men’s and women’s soccer teams. He served as the head
coach of both teams for three years, and has stood at the helm of
the women’s program for last two years.
“GSW and South Georgia have been a wonderful experience for
my family and me, but it’s time for us to return home to
Florida so we can be closer to the rest of our family,”
stated Kaplan.
Kaylor said Kaplan’s leadership and experience was vital to
the growth and success of GSW soccer. “Barry helped build our
programs from the ground up. We are still growing and improving,
but he has put us on the right track to reach the top. GSW Soccer
would not be as successful or as full of potential if it were not
for Barry’s hard work and commitment.”
GSW will begin its search this week to fill the vacant position.
The Lady Canes will kick off their 2009 schedule on August 28
against Florida College.
