Columbus State Signs 11 To National Letters of Intent

Columbus, GA - Columbus State women's soccer coach Jay Entlich has announced the signing of 11 players to National Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2009 season. The '09 class includes nine players from Georgia, one from Florida, and one from Texas. In the five-year history of the program, CSU has made it to the NCAA Elite Eight the last two seasons and has won the Peach Belt Conference regular season title the last four seasons, including the last three PBC tournament titles.

"I'm excited about this recruiting class both on and off the field. We graduated six four-year starting seniors, but this class has a load of talent and I look forward to the preseason to find out who is fit and ready to go," said Entlich.

Mary Mancin, a goalkeeper from North Hall High School in Gainesville, GA, is a top level keeper from the USYSA GA State Champion club, Atlanta Fire United. She will look for playing time immediately.

CSU has added several players at the defender position. Hope Simms, a local product from Columbus High School, Kayla Brown from Brookwood High School in Lawrenceville, Kelsey Bass from Woodlands, TX, and Jaci Carithers from Mill Creek High School in Dacula, GA, will all compete for playing time. According to Entlich, Simms is one of the best players out of Columbus and Bass is a technical player that has the ability to play outside back. Carithers has great height and is a terrific header.

Kara Mundelein (Oviedo, FL), Constance Bates (Heritage High in Conyers), Jennifer Margert (Mill Creek High in Lawerenceville), and Emily Husted (McIntosh High in Peachtree City) have been added in the midfield. According to Entlich, Mundelein is a ball winner at midfield, but also can be a playmaker. Bates is a technical player that has great vision. Margert is a work horse and Husted is an athletic player that can run all day and will be penciled in to play out wide.

Catherin Lovin (Pike County High in Griffin) and Brittany Fox (Sequoyah High in Woodstock) will compete for time at the forward position. Lovin is a pure finisher that loves to work in the penalty box. Fox is more of a wide player who likes to dribble and go one-on-one.

"We're looking forward to this new group of young ladies, however, we have a talented bunch of returners that want playing time, as well," added Entlich.

CSU gets the 2009 season underway as they face three-time NCAA Final Four finalist, Grand Valley State University, on August 28th in Tampa, FL.
