The 2008 women's soccer regular season came to a close on
Saturday night and with that, the final seeds for the PBC
Tournament have been determined.
On the field, shutouts were the order of the day. Columbus
State and GCSU fought to a 0-0 tie in Columbus, the first non-win
for the Cougars in a PBC game since 2005. GCSU's Mary Rob
Plunkett made eight saves as CSU outshot the Bobcats 20-6.
CSU's Monica Sanchez made three saves. Both teams
earned point for their troubles, but it ended up costing GCSU
a seed as UNC Pembroke moved ahead in the standings.
UNC Pembroke took down USC Aiken 2-0 on the road, their ninth
straight win. With that, the Lady Braves take the #2 seed for
the PBC Tournament. Game details were not available at press
time.
North Georgia took the #4 seed after beating Georgia
Southwestern 8-0 in Americus. Katie Turner and Lauren Schenk
each scored two goals, Schenk added an assist.
Armstrong Atlantic State finished the year with a 2-0 win at
Lander. Brittany Carr and Erin Holt each scored a goal.
The final seeds have been set. The only tiebreaker
involved Lander, Clayton State and USC Aiken. Each finished
with four points (one Lander victory was nullified). Lander
takes the #6 seed after going 1-0-1 against both Clayton State and
USC Aiken. USC Aiken is #7 with a 1-1-0 mark while Clayton
State is the eighth seed with a 0-1-1 mark.
With the loss to North Georgia, Georgia Southwestern will not be
involved in the PBC Tournament and has seen their season come to an
end.
The first round schedule is listed below. Teams that win
their first round games will advance to the semifinals and final
which, for the first time, will be played on a neutral field in
Evans, Ga. Click here for more
