Nov 18, 2008 Armstrong Atlantic's Burton Named Academic All-American SAVANNAH, Ga. - Junior forward Kristin Burton has been named to
the ESPN: The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American women's soccer
squad for a second consecutive season, released today by the
Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
The 2008 PBC Player of the Year was named to the third team in the
college division and in doing so, becomes AASU's first-ever
two-time Academic All-American honoree as selected by ESPN: The
Magazine and CoSIDA.
The Ocala, Fla., native carries a 3.63 GPA in physical therapy and
led the Peach Belt Conference in goals (22) and points (50) for a
second consecutive season. Ranked among the top 10 in NCAA Division
II in goals per game and points per game, Burton will enter her
senior season in 2009 needing just 20 goals to set the new Peach
Belt Conference career goal scoring record.
Burton also earned ESPN: The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America
honors as a sophomore in 2007 and this season was named first-team
All-Southeast Region by Daktronics.
She was the only player from the Peach Belt Conference named to the
team and is the first female student-athlete in Peach Belt history
to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in multiple seasons. She
joins an exclusive list of only three athletes in league history to
accomplish the feat - Lander men's tennis player Claes Persson was
an At-Large selection in 1996 and 1997, along with North Florida
runner Aaron Curry was a men's Cross Country selection in 2000 and
2001.
