Jun 8, 2009 Lander Adds UTC's Goss to 2009-10 Roster GREENWOOD – Lander women’s basketball coach Kevin
Pederson announced today that University of
Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Katrina Goss, a 6-2 sophomore, will
transfer to the Lady Bearcats program this fall. Goss, a product of
Westside High School in Anderson, will have three and a half years
of eligibility remaining.
A SCHSL All-State selection in 2006-07, Goss earned All-Region
status in 2005-06 and 2006-07. A member of Westside High’s
1,000-Point Club, she was selected as a Top 10 Senior in South
Carolina and played in the North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star
game. Three times she was named to the Anderson Independent’s
All-Area team and was its Player of the Year in 2005-06.
Pederson, who coached at Anderson College before coming to Lander
four years ago, recalls seeing Goss play.
“When I was coaching at Anderson College, we watched Trina
grow up,” said Pederson. “From the time she was in
middle school you could see she was going to be a special player.
She has been blessed to have Westside Coach (Jackie) Roberts and
UTC Coach (Wes) Moore, two very fine coaches, who have helped her
develop into a skilled player.”
Pederson added that while Trina hasn’t played in a game in
almost two years, “she has some work to do. However, being
6-2 with her skill set, she has a bright future ahead of
her.”
“Katrina has established herself as one of the top post
players in South Carolina,” said Roberts. “She is
versatile and demonstrates tremendous skills such as shot blocking,
forcing contact, rebounding and help side defense. She has also
developed skills that are common among guards, including running
the floor, passing and shooting. She has a wonderful spirit and is
extremely competitive on and off the court.”
