Apr 29, 2009 Phillips Signs with Lander Women's Basketball GREENWOOD – Kami Phillips, a 5-9 guard from NCAA Division
I East Tennessee State University, will transfer to Lander this
fall announced Lady Bearcats’ head women’s basketball
coach Kevin Pederson.
Phillips, an incoming junior who is from Augusta, Ga., played in 60
games for ETSU over the past two years and averaged 2.3 points and
3.0 assists in 15.1 minutes per game.
“We really liked Kami when she was playing at Laney (Ga.)
High School, and tried to sign her then,” said Pederson.
“She played about fifteen minutes a game on a very good East
Tennessee State team that has made the NCAA tournament the last two
years, and that experience is really going to benefit our
team.”
According to Pederson, Phillips is a very quick guard who sees the
floor with great vision.
“She is the type of person who any coach would love to have
in their program,” he added. “Signing Kami is a step in
the right direction for us as we look to defend our PBC
Championship.”
At Laney High School, Phillips was an All-State selection in
2006-07 and played in the Georgia Top 20 All-Star game. She
averaged 10.7 points and 13 assists her senior year and was voted
the 2007 Augusta Chronicle Player of the Year. As a junior at
Hephzibah (Ga.) High School, Phillips teamed with Lander shooting
guard Jasmine Judge to win the Class AAA state championship.
