ASU's Bonaventure Inks First Recruit

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Wednesday the addition of her first recruit.

Gabrielle “Mandy” Irizarry, a 5-10 outside hitter from Orlando, Fla., has signed with ASU and will join the Jaguar volleyball program for the Fall, 2009 semester.

A three-year starter for University High School in Orlando, Fla., Irizarry led the Cougars in kills each of the last two seasons, including a 3.7 kpg., average as a senior. The team captain and team MVP, Irizarry was a two-time, all-county selection as both a junior and a senior.

A member of the OVA 18-Molton club volleyball team, Irizarry also lettered in softball and served as sports editor for the school paper.

Bonaventure was named the eighth head coach in the program’s history on April 23, 2009. She welcomes a nucleus from last season’s 14-21 squad that returns all but one letterwinner, including All-Peach Belt Conference performer Jessica Howard.
