Dec 11, 2008 ASU Signs Local Standout AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State head softball coach Melissa
Mullins announced Wednesday the signing of local standout Laura
Brown to a national letter-of-intent.
The first early signee for the Jaguars, Brown is a pitcher and
utility player for nearby Evans High School in Evans, Ga. Brown has
played three seasons for the Knights’ softball program and is
a two-time winner of Evans High’s Best Defensive Player
award. She has been named to the North-South All-Star team and was
a Class AAAA second-team, All-State selection.
Equally successful in the classroom, Brown is a past recipient of
the Georgia Certificate of Merit.
"I'm really excited that Laura decided to join us at ASU,”
Mullins said. “She's not only a standout player, but an
excellent student as well. She is a versatile player who hits well
from both sides of the plate and can play multiple positions. She's
an all-around great young lady, and I'm pleased she'll be staying
close to home to be a Jaguar."
ASU opens its 2009 schedule on Saturday, Feb. 7 with a noon
doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars return four starters among their position players and
two of the top four pitchers from last season’s squad that
posted a 28-19 record. ASU must replace all-conference catcher
Ashley Roberts as well as three-time all-conference and All-South
Atlantic Region pitcher Amy Dumas.
