USC Aiken Inks Five for the 2009-10 Softball Season

AIKEN, SC - Head Coach Jerry Snyder announced the early signing of five players for the 2009-10 softball season: Nicole Borden, Brandy Bossle, Amanda Hernandez, Lindsey Jones, and Kelley King.

Nicole Borden is a catcher from Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla. and plays travel ball for the Jacksonville Storm. Borden is a strong player who has a great arm and bat. She was named FAST Nationals MVP, Southern Star Classic Showcase MVP. Borden also led her team to District and Regional Championships.

“Nicole is a strong young lady both on the field and in the classroom,” Snyder says. “She possesses excellent skills behind the plate and hit with a lot of power.”

Brandy Bossle is a centerfielder from Rising Sun High School in North East, Mary. She plays travel ball for the Maryland Legends.

“Brandy is one of the fastest players I’ve seen in a long time,” Snyder said. “She gets to everything in the outfield, has a strong arm and bat, and is always a threat to steal on the bases.”

Amanda Hernandez is a catcher from Woodbridge, Va. that plays travel ball for the Virginia Stars Gold. Hernandez has a strong arm and a strong bat from both sides of the plate. She comes to USCA as a highly decorated player being named First-Team All District, First-Team All Region, AAA All-State Honorable Mention, and to the Potomac News All Area Team.

“Amanda is a very talented catcher and reminds me a lot of Jessica Strickland,” Snyder said.

Lindsey Jones is a third baseman from North Augusta High School where she played with current USC Aiken pitcher Lauren Rickabaugh. While playing for North Augusta High School, Jones was named First-Team All-Region and to the High School Sports Report All State Team.

“Lindsey, a local player, is one of the toughest players I have seen,” Snyder states. “She doesn’t mind getting dirty and has no fear, which is what is needed to play third base. Lindsey also brings a strong bat.”

Kelley King is a utility player from Chesterfield, S.C. While at Chesterfield High School King helped lead her team to the 2008 State Championship. She was also named High School Sports Report Class A Co-Player of the Year, HSSR All State, and CAWC All State.

“Kelley is an excellent short stop who has a lot of natural talent,” Snyder said. “She fields the ball well, and has a strong arm. She also has a lot of pop in her bat.”
