Aug 7, 2008 CSU Softball Adds Six Players for 2009 Columbus, GA - Interim head softball coach Brad Huskisson has
announced the signing of six players to the mix for the upcoming
2009 softball season at Columbus State. Huskisson, in his first
full season in charge of the Lady Cougar program, signed five
junior college players and one local high school product.
"We are pleased with this group of young ladies for the upcoming
2009 season," said Huskisson. "We have added to our pitching depth
plus added some power bats. I'm excited about the opportunity CSU
has given me and look forward to working with this team."
Katie Ellis and Heather Snell come to CSU from Central Alabama
Community College. Ellis can catch and play the corner positions.
She slugged seven homers and had 45 RBI. Snell is a solid defensive
first basemen that can hit for power and led CACC with nine
homers.
Ginny Walsh returns to CSU after transferring back from Gulf Coast
Community College. She hit .373 last season with eight homers and
34 RBI. In 2007 for the Lady Cougars, she batted .387 with nine
homers and 49 RBI as a freshman.
Britni McCall, a right-handed pitcher, transfers in from Darton
College in Albany. She went 10-5 with an 1.99 ERA. A very good
control pitcher with lots of movement.
Devan Ellis transfers in from Kellogg Community College in Battle
Creek, MI. She had 27 hits including seven doubles and two triples
last season. The utility player can play everywhere and has a
strong arm.
April Jowers rounds out the signing class from Hardaway High in
Columbus. A middle infielder with excellent speed. She was an
All-State and All Bi-Cty performer and batted .400 or better in
three of four seasons for the Hawks.
CSU opens up the 2009 season with the Barry/Nova Invitational
tournament in Miami Shores, FL on Feb. 6.
