WINGATE, NC – UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir won his second straight NCAA Southeast Regional title on Saturday, setting a school record. The Augusta University team finished second in the team standings and Flagler's Marcus Graham finished fifth overall. Chepkesir and Graham along with the Jaguars all qualified for the NCAA National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Additional at-large selections to the national championship will be announced on Monday.
Augusta, who was ranked third in the latest USTFCCCA regional poll, finished in second on Saturday, just four points behind Queens. The Jaguars put their top four runners among the top 15 finishers in the race and easily outdistanced third-place Mount Olive. AU's Jacob Poston finished second to Chepkesir in the individual ranks with a time of 31:05.5. Chase Kennedy was fourth in 31:19.5, Chandler Kennedy seventh in 31:31.3, Hunter Kimball 14th in 31:57.6 and Jacob Burgamy 20th in 32:18.7.
Chepkesir registered a time of 30:30.7 to capture his second all-region honor, while also posting just the third sub-31-minute 10K performance in the history of the program. UNCP's Silus Kipkoech picked up all-region honors as well with a time of 31:54.8 and a 12th place finish. Freshman Tirus Kirwa crossed in 58th place with a time of 34:07.8, while Jarett Arabie (34:19.7) and Mat Maier (34:25.7) rounded out the scoring for the Braves in 65th and 70th place, respectively.
Flagler's Marcus Graham finished in fifth place with a 10K time of 31:23.4 and automatically qualifies for the national championship as he was the second individual runner not advancing with a team.
Graham earned all-region honors along with Connor Norton who finished in 21st place with a time of 32:20.4.
Columbus State finished 11th with Georgia College 15th, Clayton State 18th, Francis Marion 22nd, Lander 23rd and Young Harris 24th.
The NCAA Division II national championship cross country meet will be contested on the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course at Haggin Oaks on Nov. 23, 2019.
