Young Harris’ Gomez, Rowe, Lander’s Skelton Named Men’s Soccer All-Americans

AUGUSTA, GA – Young Harris' Carlos Gomez and Mikie Rowe along with Lander's Jordan Skelton were named men's soccer All-Americans as both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the United Soccer Coaches released their teams. Rowe and Skelton were honored by both organizations while all three were named first-team All-Americans by United.

This is the third time in the last six years that at least three PBC men's soccer players have been named All-Americans and the first time since 1998 that the league has had three on the first-team United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) team.

Gomez, who is a senior forward from Algete, Spain, was named to the All-PBC first team as being named to the second team in 2016 and 2017. Gomez, who was named to the all-region team in 2016, led the team and the conference with 10 assists, while second on the team and league in goals (12) and points (34). Gomez, who was named PBC Player of the Week once in 2018 and was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on Oct. 30, had three match-winning goals in 18 matches.

Rowe became the 13th player in league history to score 20 or more goals in a season with 22 to lead the PBC in 2018.  The senior forward from Wexford, Ireland, is currently third  in NCAA Division II with 1.29 goals per game and fourth in 2.88 points per game.  His 22 goals is the eighth-highest single-season total in PBC history and his conference-leading 49 points is tied for 11th most. Named the PBC Player of the Week four times this year and the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on Sept. 13, he also led the PBC in game-winning goals and shots.  He was the fourth Mountain Lion to be named the PBC Player of the Year and kept the award at Young Harris for the fifth time in the last six years. Rowe, who was named to the D2CCA NCAA Division II All-America second team in 2018, also earned the league's Select Sports Golden Ball Award for scoring the most goals.

Skelton is the first Bearcat in program history to garner All-American honors four times in his career. Skelton was also honored as a D2CCA second-team All-American this season and was tabbed as an All-American performer by both the United Soccer Coaches and the D2CCA after his junior season.

A defender from Newcastle, England, Skelton netted eight goals and accumulated 17 points on the season. As a member of the Bearcat defense, Skelton helped Lander allowed just 0.43 goals per match as Lander shut out 16 opponents. The Bearcats allowed one goal over their final 10 matches of the season.

During his career, Skelton has been a three-time first-team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, a three-time D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region selection, and a two-time All-American honoree by D2CCA and the United Soccer Coaches. He has been named the PBC's Defender of the Week eight times, a conference record, and the league's Player of the Week once.
