PBC Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Ranked in National Polls

KANSAS CITY, MO – Peach Belt Conference men’s and women’s soccer teams have been recognized with top-25 national rankings by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). In the latest polls released on Tuesday, Sept. 16, the Columbus State and UNC Pembroke women’s teams were both ranked among the top 15 while on the men’s side the Lander Bearcats are #21.

The Lady Braves (5-0-0), who made their program-debut in the poll at No. 18 just two weeks ago, ascended five spots to No. 8 in the latest listing, while also achieving a program-first by being ranked in the top spot in the NSCAA Southeast Region top 10 listing. The team extended their season-opening win streak out to five matches with a pair of wins last week, logging a 4-0 road win at Queens on Wednesday, before shutting down a high-scoring Lenoir-Rhyne team, 3-1, on Saturday at home. It was the first goal that the Black and Gold had allowed all season, with the Lady Braves having now outscored five opponents by a 15-1 margin.

The Columbus State women (4-2) have had a bit of a roller-coaster ride through the national polls before checking in at #13 this week. CSU has been ranked as high as #7 and have then dropped out of the poll completely. Last week, the Cougars embarked on a two-game road trip that saw them fall at Tusculum 2-1 before rebounding to beat #21 Carson-Newman 6-0.

On the men’s side, Lander slipped from #12 to #21 this week losing to No. 4-ranked Tusculum College, 2-0, last Tuesday. Lander, which is 3-1 overall, split its games last week. The Bearcats, who were ranked No. 12, slipped after a 1-1 week which included a 4-0 win over North Greenville University. Tusculum took a 1-0 lead on an own goal at the 5:56 mark and didn't get their second goal until 87:55.

Northern Kentucky remains the top-ranked team in women’s soccer while Grand Valley State holds the honor on the men’s side. The NSCAA releases its polls each Tuesday.
