Columbus State Wins Indian Bayou Classic

Destin, FL - Columbus State freshman Michael Lee rebounded from a bad case of freshman nerves on Monday to fire a stellar round of 67 on Tuesday to lead CSU to a six under par team score and a three-shot win at the Indian Bayou Classic. Tournament host North Alabama made a late charge to finish second at the Indian Bayou Golf Club.

Lee carded seven birdies to post his 67, improving 14 shots from his opening-round 81 on Monday. He almost vaulted himself into the top 10, finishing 11th. He missed the best round of the day by two shots, however, as UNA's Wes Smith closed with a 65 to win medalist honors with a two-day total of 137. He finished four shots ahead of CSU's Michael Hicks who finished with a 72 on Tuesday for a tourney total of 141. Arkansas Tech's B.J. Hawkins was third at 143, while another Cougar - Andrew Georgiou - finished fourth at 144 after a 71 on Tuesday. JP van der Walt gave CSU a third player in the top five as he closed with a 72 to finish at 145, tied with UNA's Brett Munson. Steven Paine carded a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 146 in seventh place to round out the CSU finishers.

Arkansas Tech finished third at 587, followed by Delta State at 590. DSU sank to a team total of 303 after being tied with the Cougars after round one. Cameron University (604) was fifth. West Georgia, Tampa, Henderson State, Eckerd, Lambuth, Montevallo, and Harding rounded out the 12-team field.

CSU will finish the fall portion of its schedule next week at the Rollins Intercollegiate in Ocoee, FL. The tournament will take place October 27-28 at the Forest Lake Golf Club.
