Jan 26, 2010 Three PBC Men's Basketball Teams Ranked in Top 25 KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the first time this season, three Peach
Belt Conference men's basketball teams have been ranked in the top
25 of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) poll,
released Tuesday (Jan. 26). Augusta State and Montevallo remain
ranked for the sixth week in a row while Georgia College &
State University rejoins the top 25 for the first time since Dec.
8.
Augusta State fell two spots from sixth to eighth. The Jaguars,
ranked #1 in the nation on Jan. 12, dropped the spots despite not
losing a game (the poll does not include ASU's loss at USCA on
Monday, Jan. 25), but remain in the top 10 in each poll released
this year.
Montevallo also lost some ground, dropping six spots from 18th to
24th following a 61-52 loss to GCSU on Saturday. The Falcons were
ranked as high as 13th on Jan. 12 but fell to 18th following a loss
to North Georgia. UM won their next three games, all on the road,
before Saturday's tilt against the Bobcats.
GCSU broke into the top 25 in the second regular-season poll in
21st on Dec. 1 after winning their first five games of the season.
After moving up to 18th on Dec. 8, the Bobcats suffered losses in
two of their next three games and dropped out of the poll entirely.
However, GCSU has won eight in a row since then, the longest active
winning streak in the PBC.
The three PBC teams in the top 25 is the most for the conference
since a record four were ranked last season on four different
occasions. ASU, USC Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic State and GCSU were
all in the top 25 on March 3, 2009, the next-to-last poll of the
season.
